A Verse Of The Shiv Tandav Stotram For Pradosha Vrat

Tonight is Pradosha Vrat – a Shaivite Observance !

And so, therefore :

Jattaa-Kattaaha-Sambhrama-Bhraman-Nilimpa-Nirjharii
Vilola-Viici-Vallarii-Viraajamaana-Muurdhani |
Dhagad-Dhagad-Dhagaj-Jvalal-Lalaatta-Patttta-Paavake
Kishora-Candra-Shekhare Ratih Pratikssannam Mama ||

His Matted Hair (Jatta) Like a Cauldron (Kattaaha) Whirls Around (Sambhrama), Flowing (Bhrama) within it is the Goddess (Nilimpa) of the River (Nirjharii) [i.e. Goddess Ganga]

[Note: c.f Kyanokhaitis – Blue/Black ‘Curly’ Hair of Dionysus, Hades, Poseidon]

Rolling (Vilola) like Waves (Viici) the Tendrils/Vines of His Hair (Vallarii), Brightly Shines (Viraja) His Forehead (Murdhani)

Dhagad-Dhagad-Dhagad [both onomatopoeia for the ‘beat’ of the dance – and also referring to the terrific sound of the Blaze consuming with Fire] Blazing (Jvalat) is the Brow’s (Lalaatta) Surface (Patta) [i.e. His Third Eye] with Purifying Fire (Paavaka) [interestingly, a slight change of inflection would produce Pavaka – ‘Hurricane’]

A Young (Kishora) Moon (Chandra) Crowns Him (Shekara); Exaltation (Rati) at Every (Prati) Moment (Kshanna) [of the Dance] is Mine (Mama).

ॐ नमः शिवाय !
